Job Description:

The Michigan Bed and Breakfast Association seeks an Executive Director to succeed a valued professional association executive who
is retiring after serving 14 years in that role.
Our mission as Michigan’s only statewide trade association supporting bed and breakfast inns is to inspire guests to experience unique member B&Bs which guarantee quality-assured lodging and personal hospitality in Pure Michigan.  In service to the mission, the association’s commitment to members is to support them via:
• Dynamic marketing initiatives
• Quality Assurance certification
• Business development strategies through networking and a continuous flow of useful information
• Advocacy at the state and national levels on issues related to B&Bs
The ideal candidate is an experienced nonprofit association leader who will work with, and on behalf of, MBBA’s Board of Directors, committees, and service providers to focus MBBA’s financial and human resources to achieve the above goals.

Under the policy direction of the Board of Directors this individual will:
• Maintain the systems that enable all of the goals and responsibilities of the association • Maintain the association’s financial integrity, including financial reports, bookkeeping and budgets, and payments, and manage accurate and up-to-date databases and files

• Respond to calls and emails in a timely manner • Manage the automated collection of members’ monthly dues and the members’
monthly remittances of room-night assessments • Manage sales, redemptions, and record-keeping for the gift certificate program • Support the deliberations and carry forward the plans of the volunteer committees (currently including Education & Outreach, Annual Conference, Aspiring Innkeeper Training, and New Member Recruitment committees)

• Support and organize the Quality Assurance program

• Support advocacy goals

• Manage and support the recruitment and onboarding of new members inns, aspiring innkeepers, and Preferred Vendors

• Manage the Inns for Sale page of the website

• Coordinate and produce regular member communications and aspiring innkeeper information.

• Assure:
• Association website management and updates
• Creation of regular consumer newsletters
• Sustained production of marketing blog posts and Facebook and other social media promotions, and MBBA Google Business Profile posts
• Development of fresh, highly-appealing promotions of individual member B&Bs and of Michigan bed and breakfasts as a preferred lodging choice

Requirements:

Preferred candidate qualifications

The ideal candidate will provide dedicated, quiet home office space and bring to MBBA:

• Nonprofit association administrative experience, including budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, record-keeping, and managing a database

• A proven record as someone who organizes, stays on track, attends to details, collaborates skillfully, and meets goals

• Marketing and sales experience

• Travel and/or hospitality industry insights

• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including considerable comfort with various forms of social media and online methods of outreach

• Demonstrable tech know-how (MBBA uses QuickBooks, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Constant Contact, Dropbox, WordPress, and Zoom.)

• Ability to train, when necessary, and to work closely with subcontracted consultants for specific, delegated functions, such as member recruitment or quality assurance reviews

• Knowledge of – or a curiosity to learn—the many activities and offerings of Michigan in order to market to prospective guests of the member inns

• Experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors and committees
