Robert Wiltse
Charity Island Excursions is an Award Winning Tour Bus destination that transports visitors back to the 1880's with a unique blend of Maritime history and traditional Great Lakes dining at a Lightkeepers home built in 1857.

Your 5 1/2 hour trip includes appetizers served on ride to Island, history presentation upon arrival, delicious dinner served at the Lightkeeper's home, tour of Lightkeeper's home with desert and coffee served on the return trip which is scheduled to catch the gorgeous sunset.

Lunch cruises are also available. Departures can be scheduled for each groups needs.

In addition to the narrated boat ride across Saginaw Bay, this trip is especially memorable for the fast moving maritime history presentation that will thrill and touch you emotionally as you hear of the Wreck of the Oconto on Charity Island in a fierce winter gale in 1885, and learn how human ingenuity led to Charity Island becoming the first automated lighthouse on the Great Lakes in 1917.

Robert & Karen Wiltse make the lighthouse their home nine months of the year and are the Island’s only residents. They were recognized in 2009 for the unique history and Lighthouse dining experience they provide tour groups who visit each summer between Memorial Day through mid October.
