Historic White Pine Village Interpreter

Job Description:

Hours: Part-time seasonal; 20 hours a week Tuesday - Saturday (flexibility required, includes some holidays and possible evenings)

This position serves Mason County Historical Society as a costumed historical interpreter at Historic White Pine Village during the Museum’s summer season. This position is responsible for interpreting the history of the early settler in Mason County, Michigan.

Core job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Put our visitors first by treating them as respected guests and serving their needs to provide an enjoyable and educational experience for guests to the Village.

Interpreters will teach the history of Mason County’s early settlers to visitors as they tour the Village.

Lead or participate in tours and programs discussing the fur trades, farming, lumbering, and the general life of 18th& early 19th-century settlers to Mason County.

Interact with visitors in first-person and non-first-person roles to provide an interactive experience that enhances the visitor experience as they seek to understand the times.

Participate in tours and special events as needed.

Serve ice cream in the Town Hall as needed

Qualifications:

Has a strong interest in learning local history.

Ability to provide front-line customer service.

Strong desire to provide historically accurate content

Ability to work as a team, take initiative, and problem solve.

Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills.

Excellent communication skills.
